No. Just... no. That's all I can say to introduce this post, which is about cracking files with v3.6.2 of the ecuscan program to find out what they are (if you can't figure that out by looking at the name). This post is filled with good information, but good luck finding it! It's buried in a maze of confusing tangents and frankly impossible-to-decipher writing styles that make it terribly difficult for anyone who doesn't already know what they're talking about to understand what they're talking about or how to use their cracked file correctly. I'll get into that in a moment. First, though, the history of ecuscan. Ecuscan is a program that was released on the Avast antivirus forum by one of the developers on July 6, 2006. It's still available there today, but I can't find anything about purchasing downloads for it. That's weird. The evolution of ecuscan has been documented in this thread over at WarezForum, so if you're interested in finding out more about this fine piece of avo-software you can do so here: http://www.wieldzforum.com/showthread. php?t=11702 From there I'll give you the rundown on how it used to work. You'd start by unzipping the file, which would put you in a directory called "ecuscan" that contained this subdirectory: /ecuscan/default/boxes/
Then it would request the only program that came with the package, "v3.6.2", which was named "ecuscan". The subdirectory that this placed you in contained this subdirectory...
...which contained another subdirectory like these two (which I won't go into) containing WORKING files (which I will). Program files usually contain the files they run, like "notepad.exe": Windows XP (all versions) : C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Application Data\\Microsoft\\Notepad.exe
Windows Vista (all versions) : C:\\Users\\
Windows 7 (all versions) : C:\\Users\\
Program files don't usually contain compiled programs that come in .EXE or .DLL packages, so your program needs to be made available to Windows in some other way. ecuscan was different in that it contained both compiled and separate files. If you load up your ecuscan program and open the "Information" ("Information.v3.6.2") folder in Windows Explorer, you'll find another directory:
Windows XP : C:\\Documents and Settings\\Administrator\\Application Data\\ecuscan\\default\\information
Windows Vista : C:\\Users\\
Windows 7 : C:\\Users\\
This folder would contain a file called "eScanUpdate.
